At UHN, interprofessional education provides opportunities for students from all disciplines to learn side by side in a team-based approach to health care. Students gain a deeper appreciation for the interprofessional team and the role of heath care disciplines. SPE students will also have an opportunity to learn from a variety of supervisors through a shared teaching model. This diversity, of both programs and supervisors, offers a rich learning environment that prepares student for a wide range of employment options.
UHN has a strong commitment, as an academic Health Sciences Centre, to an educational program in Spiritual Care under the auspices of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC). SPE programs are offered at the Basic, Advanced and Supervisory levels, in a single unit or a year-long Residency format. The Residency program is comprised of three units of CPE. The program strives to prepare students for registration in the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO), by linking competencies from both CASC and CRPO, and through theoretical and experiential learning opportunities. UHN has a strong commitment to preparing students for careers in Spiritual Care as regulated health care professionals.
